The Accessibility Standard for Customer Service

WHMIS/GHS Compliance Expected December 1, 2018

GHS implementation started in 2015, with the final date of compliance being December 1, 2018.  Anyone who has taken training since 2015 should have been given a combination training of both the old WHMIS and the new WHMIS 2015/GHS. As long as that is the case, they will not need any additional training.

The GHS will modify the well-known, Canadian WHMIS program, updating the pictograms, labels, (material) safety data sheets ((M)SDS) and changing classification requirements.

While WHMIS 2015 includes new harmonized criteria for hazard classification and requirements for labels and SDS, the roles and responsibilities for suppliers, employers and workers have not changed.

By December 1, 2018, all suppliers and employers will be required to be in compliance with the new HPA and HPR. (This includes the replacement of MSDS sheets with SDS sheets, which all suppliers should be including in all product shipments).
