The Camp Ping Weekly

The Camp Ping Weekly

Volume 1, Issue 4 - October 17, 2018

Definition of ping: to make contact with (someone) by sending a brief electronic message.

The International Camp Directors Course (ICDC) has been developed as a professional development course for camp managers, directors, and operators. It is equally valuable for any experienced camp staff professional.

This intensive four day course addresses all aspects of Camp Management in an interactive exchange environment with other members of the camping and outdoor community and builds on skills and learning of both faculty and participants. The curriculum has been reviewed and revised over the years and, in some cases, has also been adapted to local, national or regional situations and standards, making it a valuable professional development tool for local needs and a bridge to camping at the international level.

Throughout the year, we work hard to identify, develop and deliver effective, engaging and relevant training to boards, staff and volunteers.

Our in-house workshops are a great way to build those essential skills needed to further your career in the non-profit and voluntary sectors.

The Canadian Camping Association is proud to have a national

awards recognition program that honours outstanding achievement and contribution by Canadian camp leaders, camps, associations and institutions.

The CCA Awards Program recognizes individuals, camps, agencies or corporations. Written or online nominations from any member of CCA (including individuals) are submitted by October 31 for consideration at the last scheduled meeting of the year of the CCA Board. Once approved by the Board, the awards are presented by a member of the CCA Board at a Provincial Camping Association’s annual meeting or other suitable gathering. The names of the recipients are added to the CCA Honour Roll.

Plant a Small Forest

Camp Massad has created a small forest of trees from the Charitree foundation. First we planted the plugs in planters and then grew them for a year. So the picture is trees from the year before.

This year’s trees went into the buckets from the trees we transplanted from last year and are in the backyard awaiting the spring to be planted. Then we will put the new plugs for next year in the pots and grow them for a year before we plant them. These are the trees in my backyard awaiting next year planting.

SPARK Training Program

What is SPARK?

It can take up to 17 years for evidence-based knowledge to be translated into best practice. SPARK stands for Supporting the Promotion of Activated Research and Knowledge training program. It helps participants who work, or volunteer, in the mental health or substance use and addiction fields apply techniques for moving ideas into practice. SPARK brings together professionals, researchers, policy-makers, and volunteers from across Canada for training with KT experts, networking, ongoing group mentoring, and post-workshop assignments.
