Manitoba businesses help us send children to camp

Manitoba Camping Association has collaborated over the summer with local businesses to organize mutually beneficial fundraisers and events to send more kids to camp

As Manitoba Camping Association (MCA) has grown as a charity, we have also developed new and innovative ways for businesses to show their support.

“Our corporate supporters often come to us looking for ways they can both support us and participate in a team building exercise,” said Dana Moroz, “We are available to accommodate our donors’ needs, by offering guidance and support in planning their campaigns.”

A signicant donation this year was presented by Red River Mutual staff to MCA and the Sunshine Fund. By simply adding a twist to their casual Fridays, a $3,360 donation was collected from their “dress casual for a cause” campaign. Staff made donations for the option to wear jeans to work the day before a long weekend and the last Friday of every month.

Lainie Dahle, from Red River Mutual Social Committee said,“Many of us remember attending summer camps as children and the meaningful memories we share to this day.

"We are delighted to have been able to be a part of this fundraiser and help the children in our communities.”

Businesses like Red River Mutual in Manitoba and The North West Company share the values of MCA by providing children in the province with the chance to attend camp, experience the outdoors and create positive childhood memories.

After contemplating options for fun team activities, Lindsay Hughes from the North West Company got in touch with us and on July 8, we transformed their annual staff picnic at the Forks, to a mini "Manitoba Portage" event. The MCA team was given a monetary donation in exchange for us to come out and run a full team relay race course.

“The employees enjoyed their half day off to attend the event, lots of teams signed up and the feedback from employees has been great,” said Lindsay Hughes adding, “The Sunshine Fund is a great match for the North West Company. We support healthy living initiatives, especially for youth, so this was a great opportunity for us to give back to the community.”
